St Clare HospiceSt Clare Hospice provides free of charge care to people who have life limiting illnesses such as cancer. All our patients live in West Essex or the East Herts. Border. Hospice care is unique as we care for patients, physical, spiritual and psychological needs. We also provide care and support for a patient’s family and friends including practical advice on benefits for example as well as bereavement counselling.

Our services also include Day Therapy, a place for patients to come for one day a week, giving them a chance to socialise with others in similar situations and facing similar experiences. An opportunity to talk with our team of doctors and nurses or receive a relaxing complementary therapy such as massage or reflexology.

In-Patient Care: Our In-Patient unit is made up of 8 en-suite bedrooms each with its own patio area which over looks beautiful grounds. Patients come to stay for around 14 days on average. Many are admitted to receive specialist help to manage their symptoms, whilst other people will choose to spend their last few days here because they know they will receive support and care to help them maintain their dignity.

24-Hour Advice Line. We provide a manned 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year advice line for patients, their relatives and our community healthcare colleagues.

It costs us £2.5m every year to provide our care and we currently only receive 30% funding from the NHS. This means that over £1.75m each year has to be raised by the community we serve.

We have around 500 volunteers working with us on everything from working with our patients to gardening to helping at fundraising events.
