The Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford

 

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford which was chartered over 60 years ago. We are an integral part of Rotary International that has Clubs in almost every country in the world with a total membership exceeding 1.2 million.

Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club is a group of men and women who are enthusiastic, fun loving and active volunteers who share a common interest in helping others. Our current membership of 46 enjoy good social and business networking opportunities whilst giving something back to the community locally and world wide.

We raise funds through our annual Charity Golf Day at Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club and from our annual Christmas collections in the town.

The funds raised allow us to make donations to many worthy causes in the area, including Herts Air Ambulance, St.John’s Ambulance, Isobel Hospice, St.Elizabeth’s Centre, Grove Cottage, and Abbeyfield Home. Funds are also used to provide Christmas parcels for elderly folk and single-parent families in the town who have been referred to us by local churches, primary schools and charities.

The Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford engages in many hands-on projects locally. We support the annual Stroke Awareness Day, when over 100 people had their blood pressure taken voluntarily (several were advised to see their GP because their BP readings caused concern); We work with local schools to fill Aqua Boxes with necessary emergency items whilst the box itself is a facility for purifying water. These Aqua boxes are sent for use in disaster areas around the world. We organise annual trips for senior citizens and handicapped children when a good time is had by all.

The Youth of our town are very close to our hearts. We organise many competitions such as Youth Speaks, Young Musician, Young Technician, Young Chef and Young Photographer, through which our young people are given real opportunities to develop important skills. The Club also organises ‘mock interviews’ for sixth-formers in two local secondary schools and the Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford is proud to be associated with them.

We are also very proud of the work of our 2 Interact Clubs (young Rotary) at The Bishop’s Stortford High School and Hockerill Anglo-European College where students raise thousands of pounds for worthy causes of their choosing.

The Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford meets for lunch every Monday (except Bank Holidays) at Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club at which we frequently have interesting visiting speakers. If you would like to know more please visit our web site www.bsrotary.org
